The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) requires anyone who operates machinery to be thoroughly trained and tested.

Employers have a legal responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to provide adequate information, instruction and training for their employees before allowing them to use any type of work equipment. This also applies to members of staff who supervise or manage the use of work equipment as laid down in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

For operators working in the Construction Industry, CPCS Registration is a must. The Construction Plant Competence Scheme is a nationally recognised qualification issued through the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Wallace School of Transport offers training accredited and approved by a variety of bodies including:

• Construction Plant Competency Scheme (CPCS),
• Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWPS),
• International Powered Access Foundation Certification (IPAF)
• Powered Access Licence (PAL)
• All powered access licenses that we issue are accepted by the major contractors group (MCG).
• Independent Standard Scheme and Register (ITSSAR) 

Depending on your requirement we conduct training at our Park Royal Centre, Woolwich or Hayes.

Employers must ensure that plant operators have received adequate training on the machinery they operate. Accredited certification can prove that operators have been trained and tested to a set standard and some organisations specify the standards which they accept on their sites.

Courses vary in duration and consist of essential heath and safety awareness training as well as both practical and theoretical knowledge of operating machines.

In addition, operators need to pass the ‘touch screen’ Health and Safety test covering the basic standard of safety for working on building sites.
