Wallace Instructors can deliver training at your premises, using your company facilities, anywhere in England and Wales.
We offer training courses for
- novice operators

A maximum of three trainee delegates can attend the course at any one time and below is a basic guide regarding the length of On-Site training for operators:

On Site training requirements include:

- Un-interrupted use of truck & equipment, all in sound mechanical condition, with legible capacity plate
- An area of at least 25ft x 15ft (ideal 40ft x 20ft) and minimum 17ft high with smooth floor free from ruts or holes

- 15 – 20 pallets in good condition in addition to any used in training (for setting up the chicane exercise)
If you are unsure of your operators abilities/experience, or if you have a complex or unusual operation, or want to check your proposed training site meets the instructors training requirements we can arrange a pre-training inspection. Please contact our office if you would like to arrange this.
Operators must be aged 17 years or over and be physically and mentally fit. Any medical conditions/medication that would prohibit car driving equally apply to operating machinery. Therefore operators must not suffer from problems with eyesight, hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights/vertigo, giddiness, difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.
A driving licence is not required for forklift training, however a novice operator who has driving skills should have good co-ordination and learning skills.
Companies have a legal obligation to ensure their operators receive adequate training on all the various types of machines they may be asked to use. Further information and guidance can be found in HSE L117 Code of Practice.
Our instructors communicate in English during training/test. If your operators have limited ability in conversational English you will need to supply a translator. Operators also need to be able to read and thoroughly understand Safety Notices and Manufacturers Instruction Manuals so literacy and numeracy are important requirements.
If your operators have any problems with literacy or language comprehension or have doubts about your fitness, it is important to bring them to our attention when booking.
We offer clients the opportunity to obtain Photocards as well as certificate. However as the certificate is the most important Heath and Safety requirement, some clients prefer not to avail themselves of this optional extra. Unless you advise us otherwise, your operators’ certificates will contain your company name.
Does your company qualify for Government Funding and obtain FREE training? Please take a look at our Train to Gain pages to find out.
